Mint’s Clinical Nutritionists provide functional testing services via certified laboratories to promote optimal, assist your health & wellbeing & improve clinical efficiency. Below tests are some of the more common functional testing information obtained, but not exclusive. More specialised tests are available as appropriate to clinical assessment.

Standard Pathology Testing

We facilitate all standard blood tests via Southern Community Laboratories or as appropriate, will work with your GP or health specialist for administration.

Normal blood testing often provides general results which help to indicate if further investigation / clinical testing is required.

Organic acid test

This is a urine test. It provides insight into whether someone has bacterial, yeast or clostridium overgrowth within their intestinal tract. It also provides information around genetic biomarkers and metabolism of amino acid, as well as good indications of nutrient levels.

Additional glyphosphate, environmental toxins and phospholipase A2 testing can also be requested as part of the Organic Acid testing, which is very highly associated with chronic inflammation and pain.

The OAT test is also applicable to children and can identify underlying causes that contribute to ADHD, autism, sensory processing issues, behaviour and learning problems.

If you have struggled with health issues yet all your blood tests come back “normal” then the OAT test is a good way to reveal what the underlying cause is.  The OAT test can help to reveal problems with metabolism, nutrient deficiencies, gut health, neurotransmitters & much more.

Do you have low energy, brain fog or feel like you may have adrenal fatigue?  Or in contrast, perhaps you have gained some weight, have a suppressed immune system, or just, in general, do not feel well?

D.U.T.C.H Testing for Hormone Imbalance

If you answered yes to these questions then the DUTCH Hormone Test may be a good option for you.

The Dutch Hormone Test is the most advanced test for sex and adrenal hormones. Dutch testing enables Mint’s Nutritionist to make the most informed clinical decisions about treatment options for the cause of hormonal imbalance.

Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA)

  • Gastrointestinal Symptoms
  • Autoimmune Disease
  • Joint Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Food Sensitivities
  • Nutritional Deficiencies
  • Skin Conditions (Atopic Dermatitis)

Impairment of intestinal functions can contribute to the development of food allergies, systemic illnesses, autoimmune disease, and toxic overload from substances that are usually kept in the confines of the bowel for elimination.

The CDSA provides important information regarding the efficiency of digestion and absorption gained from the measurement of faecal levels of elastase (pancreatic exocrine sufficiency), fat, muscle & vegetable fibres, and carbohydrates.

The CDSA can be combined with Parasitology testing which tests for pathogens & dysbiosis biota as a cause of gut & immune problems.

CDSA testing provides informed clinical decisions for treatment options to promote healthy flora for optimal gut & digestive health.

This test is useful for those who are experiencing the symptoms/conditions listed.

IgG / IgA/ IgE  Elisa Testing

Food sensitivity / allergy has a direct impact on health.  A food allergy and food intolerance blood test is used to detect specific immunoglobulins that cause a physiological response of the immune system after exposure to food components causing a reaction.   The components of 96 different ‘general’ foods are tested.  More specific testing to eg; herbs, spices can be included.

We use this to detect which foods that are causing inflammation and gut problems to completely take the guesswork out of people’s diets and help them to easily eliminate what foods their immune system is reacting to.

DNA Health (Genetic Testing)

Human DNA is about 99.5% identical from person to person. However, there are small differences that make each person unique. These differences are called variants.

Your DNA was passed down from your parents—and their parents and so on. Variants can be linked to certain health conditions, traits and ancestry groups.

Your saliva contains DNA from cells in your mouth. We send you a saliva collection kit and instructions for providing your sample.

Your genetic data is analysed which generates your personalised report based on well-established scientific and medical research.

The DNA Health approach establishes the optimal nutrition necessary for good health, energy, longevity and risk mitigation. DNA Health tests for 32 genes SNPs involved in the following biological processes:

  • Methylation
  • Inflammation
  • Oxidative Stress
  • Lipid/Cholesterol metabolism
  • Bone health
  • Insulin sensitivity
  • Food/Nutrient responses

Mint’s nutritionist is available to assist with the interpretation of your results in consideration of health concerns, family history and future health risks for your optimal wellbeing.

DNA Health is specific and one of our more popular tests (other specific DNA testing is available as applicable to the individual).

DNA Health is concerned with optimising energy, wellbeing and health by making better lifestyle and diet choices, and using supplements tailored to offset any nutritional deficit or genetic shortcoming.

Common cholesterol testing may not reveal your real risk of heart attack and stroke.

Liposcreen LDL Subfraction & Oxidised HDL Subfraction Testing

Did you know that regular LDL/HDL cholesterol tests are only a rough indicator and can fail to spot high-risk cholesterol levels while returning misleading warnings for healthy people?

Liposcreen subfraction testing reveals your true cholesterol risk by going deeper than ordinary tests and analysing LDL sub-fractions.

LDL sub-fractions are a type of fat particle in your blood. These particles are absorbed by cells in the blood vessel wall and may contribute to arterial plaque build-up or coronary artery disease. LDL sub-fractions can conceal a high-risk cholesterol problem – even when your overall level of LDL cholesterol is “normal.”

We recommend taking the LDL subfraction & Oxidised HDL subfraction tests together.
